Theatre BC's Mainstage Gala Gala Awards Night is over and Emerald Pig's production of Trying by Joanna McCllend Glass was honored as the Best Production! According to adjudicator Dean Paul Gibson, Trying was the most outstanding production in every way. And then he repeated 'in every way." John Stuart and Emily Doreen Wilson were the king and queen of the ball, garnering Best Actor and Best Actress accolades. John received a standing ovation as he made his way to the podium to accept his award, his first Thespian award in his acting career. Director Simon Challenger was also honored with the Thespian for Best Technical - Sound, and an award of merit for Outstanding Direction by a First Time Director, an award that Dean Paul had himself received on his first time out. Honorable Mention for set design, lighting, costumes and makeup rounded out the applause!
A hearty congratulations to everyone involved in the production and to the whole Emerald Pig family. We would have all liked to have been there tonight to share the excitment, but there are only 5 days until Bard on the Bandstand 2013 takes Spirit Square in Pitt Meadows by storm with Macbeth, A Midsummer's Nightmare. In fact the whole Trying gang will get very little chance to celebrate tonight, as they must all drive back to Maple Ridge in the morning for a 10 am dress and tech rehearsal! John's acting hat will be exchanged for lighting technician and Simon's director hat will be turned into a pair of dirty longjohns for his role as the Porter. Emily will trade her best actress limelight for the sound booth along with Ian McAdie, if she can stay awake to hear what the actors are saying!
