Power. Greed. Love. Emerald Pig Theatrical Society’s Bard on the Bandstand production of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet is a classic tale of romance and tragedy that’s been updated with a contemporary local theme that gives a new slant to this ageless story.
Director Allan Thain has envisioned two very different families of Verona Valley, the working class Montagues and the affluent Capulets. They have been feuding with each other for years. Young Romeo Montague goes out with his friends and while at a party, he spies Capulet's daughter Juliet, and falls hopelessly in love with her. She returns his affections, but they both know that their families will never allow them to follow their hearts. While younger members of the families wage a vicious gang war on the streets the ‘star-crossed lovers’ drift towards their tragic destiny.
