Butterflies Are Free: Press Release

Click here and read all about it in the NEWS!

Emerald Pig Theatrical Society is proud to present another lovely dinner theatre comedy at the ACT, November 17-21. Butterflies Are Free by Leonard Gershe is a romantic comedy set circa 1969. Young Don Baker, hero of his mother's children's book series, "Donny  Dark" has been blind since birth, his overprotective mother following his every move. Don finally decides to take his own apartment in Manhattan to pursue his songwriting ambitions and makes a deal with his mother that she won’t visit for 2 months. He meets Jill, the free-spirited actress-next-door, and they have an instant connection. Mrs. Baker's controlling instincts go into overdrive, however, when she breaks her promise and pops in unexpectedly. Butterflies reminds us all what it’s like to strive for our independence from our parents, regardless of our own challenges and handicaps. It is also a reminder that our challenge as parents is to raise strong, independent children, even if it means watching them get hurt.

“A charming play...humorous, winning and quietly moving." -New York Post

It is funny when it means to be, sentimental when it is so inclined, and heartwarming." -New York Daily News

Emerald Pig has presented many dinner theatre productions over the years, including Faith County 2: An Evening of Culture, in which the entire set was built and destroyed every night. Then there was Har! The Pirate Play, with its motley crew of misfits, Dirty Work at the Crossroads, The Odd Couple, and last season’s Rumors, to name just a few.  Our audiences always look forward this event as it is a complete entertainment package at an extremely reasonable price. From the moment the doors open at 6 pm, you will be swept back to 1969, enjoy cocktails-a-go-go, connect with old friends and new, have a wonderful dinner and be treated to a warm and funny performance you’ll be talking about for years. This year’s sumptuous, psychedelic  feast is once again being prepared by Louise Manseau at Star Five Catering and includes a choice of Chicken Parmesan, Salmon Fillet or Vegetarian Crepes. Of course dinner also includes a gourmet salad, beautiful seasonal vegetables and rice pilaf, capped off with a delectable selection of desserts, fresh fruit, and coffee or tea.

For those of you who are tired of the same old Sunday brunch, come to The ACT on November 21st for Sunday Brunch Theatre. Doors will open at 10 am for brunch, which includes a selection of muffins, scones and pastries, quiche, scrambled eggs, sausages, roast potatoes, juice, coffee and tea.

Tickets for dinner theatre are only $45 and brunch is $40. Save even more by reserving a whole table for 8 or invite your whole office to come for an evening out and save even more. There will also be a Special Preview Night and Opening Reception on November 17. There won’t be dinner, but tickets are all only $15 – talk about a 1960’s deal!

We hope you’ll enjoy this nostalgic romp back to the flower-powered 60’s and we encourage you to dress up and far out! For more information about the show and Emerald Pig, check out our website at www.emeraldpig.ca or join us on Facebook at
