Emerald Pig Theatrical Society proudly produces quality theatre for the people of Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows. Our members are volunteers who perform, produce, direct, build, staple, duct tape and sew for the love of live theatre. Founded in the spring of 2001, EMERALD PIG is an anagram of MAPLE RIDGE. In October 2001, we became registered as a nonprofit society under the Societies Act with an elected board of directors, and in August 2004 we obtained status as a registered charity. Since then, we have enjoyed bringing countless productions to Ridge Meadows audiences, including our famous “Bard on the Bandstand” presentations in the summer, which are performed free of charge for our beloved communities.
Today, Emerald Pig has overcome the odds and escaped the fate of many theatre clubs that did not survive the Covid 19 pandemic. We are lucky to be here, and it is only through the hard work of strong club members that we have been able to continue staging live theatre presentations. But it hasn’t been easy, and while we enjoy an abundance of heart – we are unfortunately somewhat less blessed with money. The cost of producing a show has skyrocketed in the last few years. From the cost of renting a facility to perform in, to the cost of light and sound equipment rentals, purchasing props and costumes – or the supplies to make them ourselves, marketing and publicity, construction materials and furniture…not to mention the cost of performance right and scripts…the list goes on, and it all adds up. As a small non-profit with no home to call our own, it’s getting harder and harder to put on a show. We could raise ticket prices, but we’d also like to keep live theatre accessible for our seniors and patrons with smaller pocketbooks.
We believe the Arts should be for everyone. It would break our hearts if we could no longer afford to bring the joy of live theatre to the Ridge Meadows community.
Emerald Pig would like to invite you to become a patron of the Arts. We have created different levels to help you get involved at a price point you can be comfortable with, starting at just $75.
